Last weekend I was out with some friends for a few cold
ones. We happened to be at a Karoake bar - not that you
would ever catch me up there! I have no problem getting up
and speaking to large groups but there is no way you would
ever see me up there singing... can't carry a beat for the
life of me.
Anyhow, a couple tables over is this trucker looking guy.
Trucker ball cap, big belt buckle, cowboy boots, ugly shirt
- the whole works.
At first glance, you'd guess this guy is there for a beer,
and probably to try and find a date for the road.
Well, lo and behold, they call him up to sing.
What is he going to sing?
That song "I'm too sexy..."!
I laughed at first thinking this is a joke and is just being
done to get some attention.
I laughed until he started singing...
He was AWESOME!
Would have never guessed mr trucker man would have a voice
like that... he had the place a rockin.
And it made me think how many times things like this
surprise us in business.
The sales person who is all frumpled, even looking like they
don't know what they are doing - yet seems to close an
extraordinary number of deals (think the Columbo approach).
Or the little business down the road that runs a one-time-
only special event - and the media goes out en mass to cover
it... in turn, bringing in tons of buyers.
It is the least likely of places where you can find the most
powerful strategies for marketing your business.
Over the next week, spend some time watching. Look for
marketing ideas in the least likely of places. Find ways to
partner very different ideas into one big idea. Note what
other non-related businesses are doing - and then find a way
to make their ideas work for your business.
You just never know where the big breakthrough will be...
when it hits... you will know it... so will your bank
account.
