This past weekend I took my twin daughters Katrina and Hailey to the special preview showing of Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D.
Hundreds of excited kids, and plenty of parents hoping this movie would be a winner (or at least keep their kids happily entertained for 90 minutes or so).
It was - and it had a thing or two to teach about success which I found quite fascinating.
Here is a kids movie with a boy with gills and fins - and a girl with lava for blood... and I honestly saw business in it?
Kind of.
The premise of the movie was that one boy was a master of using his dreams and imagination to create new worlds and characters unlike anything else here on earth. His passion for dreaming things up was so strong that his dreams ultimately started to become reality.
A lot of the movie was on how powerful your dreams are in creating your reality. When your dreams are disappearing(replaced with fears and doubts) your reality reflects just that and all that you fear and doubt comes true.
When your dreams are strong, powerful and (to you) are as real as you can imagine - miracles start happening and your dreams start to manifest into reality.
While the move had some hokey parts - it was fun - and it was very true about your present day situation.
Your dreams do manifest your reality... are you dreaming up your perfect world? Or are you dreaming about negative things (like most of society does)?
When you spend your time dreaming, and especially daydreaming, about your perfect world - it WILL come to fruition.
Your dreams are your future - so make sure they are good ones.
Thanks Shark Boy and Lava Girl - you taught me and my kids a valuable lesson this weekend - dream big - for what you dream about will be yours.
Until next time... Troy
P.S. - Is it truly possible for me to make a living working from my kids playhouse?

Nice blog entry about the movie -- did you know the idea for the movie came from the director's KID?
The story goes that Robert Rodriguez, director of Spy Kids and the El Mariachi series (among others), asked his son Racer Rodriguez what his next movie should be about, and his son came up with the Shark Boy/Lava Girl idea.
If you check the Internet Movie Database, you can see that Racer even got top-credit for story and screenplay (along with his Dad). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424774/
How's that for "Take Your Child To Work Day"?

Hey Don,
I had no idea.
The movie was well done - it actually was quite deep in some spots about using dreams to create reality - surprising for a kids movie.
At the same time, it was great seeing kids being taught such an important lesson about their success.
Good stuff - now I can justify my working from the playhouse!
